Volunteer at Ryde- Gladesville

“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.” ― St. Therese of Lisieux

We have a number of volunteering opportunities at our Parish, so there are plenty of opportunities to be involved and give back to the local community.

Parish Compliance

In order to volunteer with Ryde-Gladesville, all volunteers must complete the following compliance documentation. These requirements are consistent across all Parishes following the Royal Commission into Child Abuse in the Catholic Church, and are mandated by the Archdiocese of Sydney.

You can complete your Parish Compliance in just 5 steps! All that is needed is the following:

  1. Complete the Volunteer Registration Form (see below)

  1. Sign the Code of Conduct (see below)

  1. Provide a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC). If you do not already have one this can be obtained by visiting the Office of the Children’s Guardian website or through Service NSW. You can find more information about obtaining your WWCC here.

  1. Complete the SALT training. This step will be completed by you online. To register for the online training please click here. Once you complete this form, the Archdiocese will send you a link to complete two short, training modules. Once these have been successfully completed, you will be automatically emailed a SALT Completion certificate, which must then be provided to the Office. If you are unable to complete this step online, please contact the Parish Office.

  1. Provide this documentation to the Parish Office. One we have copies of all 4 documents, your Safeguarding and Child Protection is completed.

Here you can download all the documents you'll need to complete your Parish Compliance for Ryde-Gladesville. Please fill them out and then return them to the Parish Office at office@rgcp.org.au or by visiting us during office hours.

Buddy System

Our Buddy System volunteers help us out on an opt-in, weekly basis, delivering bulletins to our elderly and isolated parishioners who are unable to come to Masses during the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, particularly those without access to technology and our parish news/masses online.

If you'd like to know more, you can visit our COVID-19 update page, or contact the Office if you are interested in being a volunteer.

COVID Marshalling

We have a dedicated team of COVID Marshals who help to supervise our churches during opening hours and assist visitors with COVID-safe check in procedures. The role involves assisting people with QR Code check in or manual sign in, maintaining procedures such as mask-wearing, physical distancing and hand sanitising, and undertaking light cleaning duties. Depending on the day of the week, COVID Marshals also have the opportuninity to assist at events such as funerals, weddings and baptisms, and provide an essential service that helps keep our parish community safe.

Church supervision as a COVID Marshal is a great way to spend some extra quiet time with the Lord while the Blessed Sacrament is on display at St Charles, as well as meet and welcome new visitors in the local area to our parish.

You can volunteer for just 1 hour a week or whenever you're available, or if you would like to assist more reguarly we can find you a regular time slot.

If you are interested in this vital ministry, please contact the Parish Office for more information about how you can get started.

Green Fingers Gardening Club

Our Green Fingers club usually runs once a month on a Saturday morning. This team of volunteers works with Fr Greg and assists with maintaining the gardens and lawns at St Charles Church, Ryde. It is usually advertised in our Parish bulletin a week or two before, and anyone is welcome to join, so just keep an eye out in the bulletin! You can also subscribe to receive our weekly news email, including the bulletin.

Vinnies Night Patrol

If you'd like to be involved in the St Vincent De Paul Society at all, particularly with the Night Patrol van which delivers food to those in need, please visit our Ministry website for more information. If you'd like to be involved, you can contact Anna Alessi, our Gladesville Vinnies Coordinator at vinnies@rgcp.org.au.

Ministry at Masses

If you have any experience or would like to be a Reader, Acolyte, Musician/Choir Member, AV Operator or Camera Operator at Mass, we have a ministry roster which allows parishioners to volunteer in these roles on a regular basis. For more information, you can visit our ministry website, or contact the Office if you'd like to be involved.

Welcome & Hospitality Ministry

Our welcome ministry is a newer volunteering role, in which a team of friendly people welcome parishioners and guests to the church at our 10am Mass, and serve tea and coffee afterwards.

It is a great way to get to know other people in the Parish, and with a growing team we are hoping to expand it to other Mass times as well. If you'd like to know more or are interested in joining, please contact Pina Bernard on 0432 682 239 or at pber5973@bigpond.net.au

Please note: the Welcome and Hospitality Ministry is currently on hold while face-to-face Masses are suspended during lockdown.
